Build a stronger foundation by donating to LEAF
For more than twenty years, LEAF (Lansing Educational Advancement Foundation), has been dedicated to enriching the educational experience for all Lansing students through support and curriculum enhancement.
What does LEAF do?
LEAF raises money (more than $1.5 million dollars since 1984) and distributes these funds (more than $963,000 so far) to classroom teachers and students.
How does foundation money reach teachers and students?
We distribute money through minigrants for classroom teachers, minigrants for schools, fellowships for teachers, scholarships to students, special opportunity grants, grants to art and music teachers and create funds for special school projects. These projects include: The Beekman Therapeutic Horseback Riding Program, Peer Mediation Program, Project Play, Ebersole Center and the Otsu Exchange Program.
If I already contribute to LEAF through payroll deduction, do I need to fill out another form?
It is not necessary to fill out another payroll deduction form unless you intend to increase their contribution. If you do not know the amount that you currently contribute, you should contact the LEAF office at (517) 755-3177.
Where does the money come from?
Trustees on the LEAF Board hold fundraising events, work with business and community partnerships, and try to bring more funding into LEAF from sources as simple as payroll deduction and cash gifts or as complex as planned giving and charitable endowments.
How may I participate?
A contribution of just $2.00 per pay period (less than one specialty coffee every two weeks) through the easy payroll deduction plan will assist us in attaining our goal. All money secured through this program will be used to support the minigrant program for teachers and their innovative learning projects.
What else does LEAF do?
This fall we are partnering with the district to launch an all-district college planning night at one of our High Schools. LEAF will showcase our endowed scholarships and provide information and applications to parents and students. A return engagement is in the works for spring. On Friday, November 11th, we will host our 8th annual LEAF Art Auction. During this fun-filled evening, we bid high and often on spectacular art work created by our students. The proceeds go directly to the art teachers to order art supplies. Next spring we will have a LEAF Wine Tasting Celebration at Beggar’s Banquet to toast our successes and boost one of our scholarships. LEAF has more ideas for fundraising and projects to fund. Please join us in our efforts.
How can I be part of the foundation?
