Statement of Purpose
The Beekman Therapeutic Riding Center primarily serves the children and young adults with disabilities from the student body of the Marvin E. Beekman Center. We also offer community based services.

Mission Statement
The Beekman Therapeutic Riding Center allows people of all abilities to partner with horses using the techniques of natural horsemanship to strengthen the body and the human spirit in a safe environment.

History of the Riding Center
Beekman Therapeutic Riding Center in Lansing, Michigan was established in 1979 to provide therapeutic type riding and equine activities to the children at the Marvin E. Beekman Center. The Center (a school for children with disabilities) focuses on a holistic approach to the education and development of the children in their care. After being part of the Lansing School District for over 25 years, the riding program was cut due to budget issues. Beekman Therapeutic Riding Center was reformed as a non-profit entity under the fiduciary of Lansing Educational Advancement Foundation (LEAF) in June, 2005. We are still located on the campus of the Marvin E. Beekman Center.

Current Operations
Our goal is to continue to provide children from the Marvin E. Beekman Center with equine related therapeutic type services. This program is of great benefit to the children as it provides additional support and care during the course of their childhood development, starting at age 3 and continuing through age 26. The Beekman Student Equine Program runs concurrent with the Fall and Spring Semesters of the Lansing School District. We also partner with community organizations for events like elementary school class visits, YMCA summer camps, Michigan State University departments for various activities and others.

How We Are Funded
Beekman Therapeutic Riding Center depends solely on grants, donations and fundraisers to fund our program and operating costs. LEAF is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. Your contribution is tax deductible.
